I totally failed today.  I completely missed Utada at the Sephora at Hollywood and Highland.  Despite getting to work early and leaving early, I still missed the entire event.  The traffic was horrible going across town, that it took me almost 1 1/2 hour just to drive 8 miles!  At 1 point, I could clearly see the building, but I just sat there in stagnant traffic for 1/2 an hour.  It was that horrible.  I got there a little before 6, and by then, the line was incredibly long.  About 5 minutes later, some guys running the event came and told everyone that only people with wrist bands would get in (to avoid line cutters), and all the wrist bands have been handed out.

One thing that surprised me was how diverse the crowd was.  I figured there would be a lot of Asians, since Hikki is soo beloved by Asians everywhere, but there were people of every ethnicity.  There was a kinda cute guy I noticed, and I think he had green eyes.  I didn't stare too much so maybe he wasn't even cute.  Didn't get a picture of him though, bummer.

All was not lost, as I trekked to the MAC store in the same plaza/mall/huge building, and checked out the Sugar Sweet line.  The displays in that store was incredible clean, and lots of disposable q-tips/gloss wands readily available.  I did get a lil something something just so I could get my parking validated.  =P  Plus I found a lipstick/gloss combo that may just create the deep, also black plum lips I want.  HmmMMmm.

1 reader asked about RSVPing to the event, but I don't see any information about that.  It just says it's opened to public.  I'm going to suggest that you get there early to avoid a long line.  Lastly, there's going to be a $500 gift certificate from Sephora for 1 lucky winner!!  How awesome is that?

So again, the event to meet Utada Hikaru is on March 24, from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Sephora store on Hollywood and Highland.  From what I can tell, there's no RSVP, so get there early!  I noticed my previous Utada post had a lot of views, and saw that a lot of people are coming to my page straight from googling about this event.  So that means tons of people are interested in going!

I'm really excited about Utada Hikaru's new English debut.  A lot of her songs are already leaked on youtube, but I'm still going to support her and actually buy her album.  Even more exciting, she's partnering up with Sephora to promote her new album!

I've been keeping myself away from Sephora for so long since I don't really have an "excuse" to go, but this is a great excuse!  I can meet Hikki AND play with makeup at the same time.  This is just SWEET!  I'm definitely going!  Any LA-ers want to carpool with me?

Btw, album drops 3/24 in the states!  Yes, you can download it, but come on, how often do you see an Asian American solo artist succeed in the states?  Show some support!

 

I might be one of the FEW Asians who is not already a big fan of Hikki.  Sure, I know who Hikki is and I like her work, but I've never been a big fan.  Especially not the way I was with CoCo Lee.  For some odd reason, I just didn't really get into JPop.  Anyhow.. She's coming back to the states with her 3rd English album, hoping to make it mainstream this time.  Her first album came back when I was still in HS, and her second one was very theatrical and not pop-friendly at all.  I like it now, years later, but that second album had to grow on me.

This video for her "debut" song, Come Back to Me, was just released, and baby, I've got chills.  It's such a beautiful song with a gorgeous video.  Hikki looks HOT in it!  The style, the makeup, the hair; everything is just bangin'!  Some people think the chorus is a bit repetitive, but I think it works with the song.  Btw.. anyone have an idea what that dark red color is?  I love it on her!  I think this weekend I'm gonna sport some heavy black rimmed eyes with a dark lip.  Baby come back to me!

Er.. I can't sleep so I've just been blogging and blogging.  Plus I had jury duty today, so I had a LOT of time of doing nothing.  =P
