    FOTD/EOTD with MAC Hello Kitty

    By GloriaYangBB · March 25, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

I finally finally finally opened the Too Dolly palette that I bought more than a month ago.  It's been sititng in the box since, completely untouched by my little grubby fingers and any makeup brushes since I bought it.  Yes, I'm extremely weird like that.

The colors are extremely bright, and also extremely easy to apply and blend!  Maybe it's just me, but (at least to me) not all MAC eyeshadows are equal.  Some are definitely harder to apply than others, and some are definitely more pigmented than others.  All the colors in the Too Dolly palette just happens to be soft, smooth, and blendable.

So I did this look in about 15 minutes, during my afternoon break at work.  I wanted to look cute going to Sephora, as if I really do know my makeup.  I was debating over doing a very simple eye (black liquid liner with some soft matte base) with a dark berry red lip, or a colorful eye with nude (ish) lips.  My coworker, L, coaxed me into doing a colorful eye because she likes the way I do it.  L has a way of getting me to do things, so I followed her advice and got this done.  I really really like the picture too.  My face doesn't look too fat in this angle.  =D

I really love how the blue turquoise mixed with the fuscia perfectly to create a beautiful purple.  It's as if I'm wearing 3 different colors instead of just 2!  My lashes look kinda busted, but oh well.  Below's a list of everything I used (to the best of my memory):

    • MAC Hello Kitty Too Dolly ES Palette
    • MAC Hello Kitty Big Bow Lipstick
    • Shiseido ZA True White Two-Way Foundation
    • NARS Super Orgasm
    • Urban Decay Liquid Eye Liner in Oil Slick
    • L'oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara
    • AVON Supershock Mascara in Brown (used as brow gel since the color is PERFECT)
    • YSL Touche Radiance

Happy St. Patrick's Day! FOTD Included

    By GloriaYangBB · March 18, 2009 · 2 Comments ·

I wanted to do a fun green eye look for work today, but I didn't think I did a good job.  So after working out and hanging out with my sister, I decided to re-do a proper fun bright green eye.  I thought I would spend maybe 15 minutes on it, and only focus on the eye, but I ended up doing a huge dramatic smokey look that took me almost an hour!

Too bad it's already 12:30 and I'm ready to head to bed.  This look would be perfect for a fun night out.  It's definitely not work appropriate unless you work in fashion/beauty/music/somewhere funky where your look can be super dramatic.  I'm a bit tired so I'm not going to crop anything out or even resize it properly.  I have to be up in 6.5 hours and I still need to wash off all this pretty makeup.  If you guys want a tutorial, please let me know.  Otherwise I might forget about it.

Before, some tips for applying a bright eye look.

    1.  Prime your eyelids!  I chose to go with a MAC Paint in Canvas today, but anything would work.  Urban Decay Primer Potion or even your concealer!  The key to have a good nude base so your color will stand out.

    2.  Clean brushes!  You want your color to be bright and clear.  That brush you used yesterday to apply brown/purple/whatever will make the color look dirty and muddy.

    3.  Try applying the brightest shades wet!  I had to clean my brushes just before doing this look, but it worked out since applying the colors wet allows it to stand out even more.

    4.  Blend blend blend!!  Have a clean blending brush (MAC 217 is the best) ready to blend out all the colors.  You want a pretty gradient, not blocks of colors on your eyes.

    5.  Don't worry about being precise and just have fun!  Just have some q-tips at standby to quickly remove any mistakes, or blend out that error with your blending brush.  Or, keep a concealer (dry is the easiest) around, and just cover any mistakes with a concealer when your done.

I didn't have much of an idea when I started applying.  I knew I want that bright green to stand out, so I pretty much let it grow organically.  Hope you like it, and again, if you want a step by step, let me know!

Looking sort of down without flash

    Another angle with flash.

Tell me what you think!!  This way I won't feel so wasteful about spending all this time (and product) for a look I'm only wearing for less than an hour.  Gah it's already 1!!

"FOTD" Make Up Shot for PattyO's Birthday!

    By GloriaYangBB · March 16, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

I wanted to submit this to Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog yesterday for the Share Your Look post, but I didn't have enough time.  I finally got around to uploading the images to my laptop, so here it is.  I played with the pre-set frames and shapes to hopefully make my pictures more interesting.  I love how Karen does her pictures, but I have no talent to do it with her style.

This was for going out to dinner with my really good friend Patty.  I'm doubt she wants me to reveal her real age so I'll just say she's turning 21!  Woot woot!!  I wanted to keep it simple yet elegant as I also didn't have much time since I was lying in bed taking a nap when I should have been getting ready.  I ended up grabbing my NARS Alhambra duo, and defining my creases a little bit with my dark plummy red eyeshadow from Missha.  I then wetted my small tiny eyeshadow brush with contact solution, and lined my eyes with the same dark plummy red.  Topped it off with some mascara and I was out the door!

and a close up of the eye (i took it from my car so the lighting may not be ideal)

    Items I used:

Face: Shiseido ZA True White Two-Way Foundation in 32, MAC Hipness Blush from Fafi Collection, and MAC Fun & Games from Hello Kitty collection

Eyes: NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Alhambra (pinkish shade all over up to the brow bone, gold shade concentrated on lids), Missha Eyeshadow in PP202, Kiss Me Goodlash Power Beam Eyes, Green contacts from Fresh Blends

Lips: NYX Lipliner in Rose, Laura Mercier lipgloss in Bellini

So what do you guys think?  I think I need a hair cut!  My hair is looking a tad limpy unstyled.

    Webcam Fun and Work Issues

    By GloriaYangBB · February 24, 2009 · 2 Comments ·

My mom's new laptop comes with this super fun webcam program.  It has frames!!!  My sister and I decided to have some fun and here are the results.  i'm wearing purple contacts in the pic, though you can't really tell.  But I think it's pretty fun to wear.

And yes, my sister on the right has the same exact smile for every single picture she takes.

As for the work issues, it's not that big of a deal in actuality.  I think I'm psyching myself out because I'm so excited.  I checked my company's career page and I saw an opening for a QA Analyst position.  Right now I'm a lab technologist, and I don't see myself being a lab tech forever.  I'm much better in front of a computer rather than in front of a Southern blotter.  Recently, when my coworker asked if I was applying for the opened QC position, I actually replied, "no.. but if there's an open QA position, I'll definitely apply."

Going into QA will definitely open much more doors in the biotech/pharm industry.  It's definitely an industry I plan on staying in, nobody which direction I go (business school or law school or no school!).  I'll definitely talk to the QA guys in my lab to get a feel for the opened position, and also get some gossip!

Btw, at work, I learned that po-boy was a sub like sandwich.

    Juicy FOTD of the Day

    By GloriaYangBB · January 22, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

Since I transferred back to day shift, I've been *gasp* putting makeup on every morning!!  I just look much better and have more energy when I wake up in the morning, so putting on makeup feels fun rather than like a chore.  I'm letting my coworker choose my eyeshadow colors, and today she chose PINK!

    I used:

    Face

    • Missha Primer Gel (I think it's discontinued)
    • Nars Oil-Free Foundation in Santa Fe
    • MAC Select Moisturecover (undereye concealer)
    • Hanskin Blemish Concealer (for acne)
    • Missha Powder Blush in Hot Pink (again, can't find it on their website)
    • Benefit Dallas

    Eyes:

    • Majolica Majorca Majolook Eyeshadow Palette in Flower Girl (RS354)
    • Stila Smudgepot in Black (applied with angle brush as close to my lash line as possible)
    • Majolica Majorca Lash Gorgeous Wing in Black (since I was using MJ eyeshadows)

    Lips:

    • MAC Strawbaby from the Fafi Collection

Tell me what you guys think?

I think the lips were too orange, so I added some pink lip gloss on top when I got in my car.

    Holiday Day Look - 2008

    By GloriaYangBB · December 23, 2008 · 0 Comments ·

Earlier I wrote about how I'm using Lavshuca's Color Select Pk-2 for my Holiday look this year.  On Sunday, I had a chance to do a light "day" time look for my mom's birthday dinner.  Well, at first there was no plan to go out to dinner since her birthday is so close to Christmas, but on the actual day of her birthday, all of us kids forgot to call her to wish her Happy Birthday.  That's not the worst part.  My dad, being extremely busy and stressed from work, forgot too!  So my mom calls my dad, reminding him that this wasn't the first time he's forgotten about her birthday, and in return, my dad calls my sister, and gives an order to do something!  The something ended up being dinner at a local Chinese restaurant, and well um.. my mom didn't show up.

    She called in sick.

BUT, not wanting to waste a chance of getting dolled up and eating good food, my sisters decided we should still go eat to celebrate my mom's birthday without her.  *roll eyes*

Anyhow.. here are the ingredients I used for the overall look.  Note that I forgot to add primer.  Half of the time, I forget to apply primer before applying foundation.  But the NARS Oil-Free Foundation wears so well that you don't necessarily need a primer.  I'm also breaking out, so note the Neutrogena Skin Clearing Concealer in Green.  That baby really helps to cover up the red, but it is green, so you want to apply this underneath your foundation.

In the end, I ended up with this.

    With Flash

    Without Flash

    Close ups of eyes

The color is more vibrant in person.  I'm a retard when it comes to my digicam, so I can't seem to capture the color.  The lighting is better in the morning too, since my bathroom lighting kinda sucks.  Plus I really need to trim my fringes/bangs.  I love saying fringes since it's the way British gals say it.  Just like how they call blush blushers.  It just sounds so much sexier.
