Belle of the Ball: Michelle Obama

    By GloriaYangBB · January 22, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

Everyone is going crazy over Michelle's ivory one-shoulder gown by Taiwan (woot woot!  Taiwan represent!) born Jason Wu (no seriously.. TAIWAN REPRESENT!  YEA!!!).  Nobody is really talking about her makeup though!

I googled a bit and found that she's been with makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Myles for a while now.  Grimes-Myles creates classic looks that fits Michelle's face as well as the occassion.

For the ball, Michelle's sporting a slight plum/browny smokey eye, but nothing too dark or too dramatic.  Her eyes are defined with a soft eyeliner, and either she has amazing lashes, or she's sporting a tiny teensy bit of individual falsies.  Her lips look different depending on the light, but I'm going to guess it was a soft pink-nude gloss or creamy sheer lipstick on her lips to make the overall look very soft and graceful.  According to Beauty Girl Musings, Grimes-Myles used the following for the night look:

Maybe it's the lighting, but I don't see the blush.  I've read/watched other interviews where Grimes-Myles said that she doesn't always use blush on Michelle.  It's honestly hard to tell due to lighting.  I'd have to see her in person.  But overall, the key tihng to this look is that it's well blended.  It looks soft, beautiful, and natural on Michelle.  It probably helps that she's extremely blissful and glowing from within.

The only thing I have a gripe about is her hair.  While her hair looks fabulous and shiny, I wish it was a bit more done up!  She didn't change her hair at all from day to night, and it's a ball!!  I love the side swept bangs, the slight volume, and the curl-in on the bottom, but I don't think it completed the look.  I'm going to guess that she didn't have much time, so her and her hair stylist just opted to make the hair look extremely polished.

So what did you guys think of the overall look?  And Jason Wu?  I actually was googling him just a few weeks ago.  I want to say he was featured on Couture Snob, but I can't be sure.  Well, if he wasn't featured on Couture Snob a few weeks ago, he certainly is now!

oooh nevermind.  I checked my e-mail (subscriptions baby) and it was Coutorture that featured him in December.  Normally I'm bleh to looking at fashion lines, but Asian last names always intrigue me!  TAIWANESE BABY!!  TAIWANESE!!

In case you haven't noticed, I'm Taiwanese too.
