Too Easily Pleased

By juicywatermelon · February 1, 2010 · 0 Comments · 16 Views

Sometimes I wonder if I'm way too easily pleased. After telling my friends about being hired as a permanent cast at Sephora, most of the questions involved whether or not I'd be paid more or if I'd get a hired discount. Hm.. I didn't really think about that.

In all honesty, I only asked about the uniform. To top it off, I just found out today that I'd get a brush belt. Yea... those 2 pretty much is enough to satisfy me.

I wonder about myself at times.

Men in Sephora

By juicywatermelon · January 31, 2010 · 4 Comments · 34 Views

There are a surprisingly large number of men shopping at Sephora. A tiny percentage are there for themselves, and you can normally tell which ones those are as they tend to be pretty hot. There are also guys there either with their wives or girlfriends or just simply left with shopping lists. There are 2 types of those though - the young and eager to please, and the middle age who is happy not to be buying more tampons. Then there's the last type of guy - the ones who are there getting gifts.

Here's a little tip to the last type of guys - let us help you and your wife/girlfriend/mistress will be extremely happy. Give us as much information about your gal as possible - how she smells, what lifestyle she leads, what she likes, what she dislikes. Showing us a picture of her would probably help a lot! Is she complaining about getting older? If so, why not a new anti-aging cream from Lancome or Caudalie? Does she like gadgets? How about a Clarisonic? Is she totally into youtube makeup tutorials? Get her a Lauren Luke palette! How long have you two been together (if new - give her perfume, and save the gift receipt). Why walk around the store all stressed out when we can help you find the perfect gift?

There are some items that I don't recommend you purchasing. Don't get her any anti-acne products because that's saying, "hey babe, I love you and all, but your acne is disgusting." Neck firming creams say, "hey baby, your neck is starting to look like a turkey! HAHA, YOU ARE OLD!!" Sure, it might be something your girl is thinking about purchasing, but let her get those herself, or give her a gift card so you can indirectly pay for it.

So trust us, we'll guarantee that you will not get kicked to the dog house.

Hey Everyone!  Happy New Years!!!  I know I've been an awful blogger, but still, hello and thanks for hanging in there with me.

Just a quickie, but I'm at Sephora at Century City for the holiday season.  It's so fun and exciting, the time goes by super quickly.  I love talking to all the people that comes in, even if it's a quick hello or good bye. The best part is that I get to know first hand what deals are in place.  Right now there are some great steals that people who work there can't even purchase because it's at such a huge discount!  Nars duo concealers, originally $30, are only $10.  Boscia oil absorbing sheets are only $4.50.  My favorite steal?

So come in and say hi to me if you're in the are and get these great deals in person!!!!  Also check out our Express makeup service to get a brand new eye look, lip look, skincare routine, for under 15 minutes with a specialist!

Goodbye 2009 and hello 2010!!

On a side note, I finally figured out how to record videos on my webcam, so *gasp*, I might actually do video tutorials for real now.  Are you prepared to see and hear me?  EEEK!

Detour from the usual

By juicywatermelon · November 16, 2009 · 0 Comments · 21 Views

No doubt I've been lazy when it comes to blogging, as with late, I just spend time going on Facebook, FMyLife.com, and NotAlwaysRight.com when I use my computer.  Oh, did I forget to mention Netflix's Instant Watch feature?  That plus my pooch Sniffles has me completely entertained.  Speaking of Sniffles, he's bitten through a MAC concealer, and destroyed the handles of a couple brushes.  I'm thinking of just taping the handles up as the hair part isn't damaged.  One was just thoroughly licked by him.

Anyhow, I've finally opened up my Google Reader, and of course, I have over 1000 posts to get through.  EEK?  I clicked "Marked as Read" on most of them, but faithly went through a couple.  One of them is Angry Asian Man.  Sometimes I wonder if I was crazy when it comes to seeing racism.  Am I overly sensitive?  For most of high school, I seriously thought I was as I seemed to be the only person with my views.  Anyhow, I love AAM - I read it more faithfully than I read some beauty blogs.

AAM features a Reader of the Week section, and in the interview, AAM asks, "What makes you angry?"  This week's Reader, Ed Lin, described an incidence that *gasp* has also happened to me!

"One of the most infuriating episodes of my life was when I was taking a class on John Milton at Barnard and the old white female professor called me into her office to tell me that I had made mistakes in my paper "that a native English speaker wouldn't have made." She asked where I was from and I said I was born here. She quickly interjected, "Well, your parents weren't!" I couldn't believe that I was sitting there talking with someone who, despite our lengthy and rather pointed conversation, had merely made a visual check and labeled me as an illiterate. Later on in the year she complimented me on another paper I had written, but asked me, "Did you get help on it?" I told Columbia students about this incident at a reading last year, and all these students came up to me afterwards with similar stories. I can't believe such idiocy is still going on!"

Yep, that happened to me in high school.  My 10th grade teacher made a huge deal on something or another, and remarked to the entire class that I have a problem that many non-native English speakers have.  At the time I was completely surprised - I was an honors English student AND I've been enrolled in an afterschool English tutoring program since I was 11.  On top of that, English IS the only language that I have complete control over.

Now thinking back, that was such a racist and ignorant remark my teacher made.  I heard she's retired, or at least I hope she has retired.  She never liked my writing, and is probably a reason why I went into Science to avoid writing papers.  Isn't it awful how one teacher, one racist teacher, could sway your career in one direction because she made you think you had no talent in that topic?

Trouble Applying Blush?

By juicywatermelon · October 2, 2009 · 4 Comments · 65 Views
During 2 separate ocassions, while I was enjoying delicious tart
frozen yogurt, I've gotten so distracted by girls with bad blush!
Both girls looked like they had orange box taped onto their face. One
girl wasn't even wearing much makeup aside from the horrendous blush.

So my questions to you Juicy Watermelons? Do you find it difficult to
apply blush? What about choosing the right color blush? Would a
Youtube vid showing different ways of applying blush help?

Let me know in the comments and I'll get on it!

I'm Back and Loving Jane Iredale

By juicywatermelon · September 28, 2009 · 1 Comment · 55 Views

It's been a while huh?  For some odd reason, I just haven't felt compelled to blog about anything.  Not that I haven't been trying out great products or anything like that, but sometimes I start writing something, and feel like it's just crap.  Was I getting burned out?  Was it work?  No idea.

I've actually wanted to write about Jane Iredale for a while.  A couple of weeks (or was it months?) ago I received a makeover from Jane Iredale, and came home with their Limited Edition Sweet 15 Kit.  It features 15 pressed mineral eyeshadows in colors that you will actually use, 1 light bronzer, 1 peachy shimmery blush, 1 baby pink blush, and 3 lip plumpers.  This is my go-to palette for everyday use, for traveling, and for giving my friends/family makeovers!  It's completely hassle-free, and everything is pigmented and easy to blend!  It's so easy creating a natural look to a smokey look to a colorful look with this, it's amazing.  The bronzer is one of the best bronzers I've used thus far - it's not so dark that it looks like dirt is on your face, but brown enough to use as contour.  Plus the entire kit is practically mess-free!  That's my biggest gripe with mineral anything - it's loose and messy, and it gets all over the place.

If you can only buy ONE makeup item this month, this is the item to buy.  At $78, it's a steal for what you get.  Plus you'll actually use this every single day, and you won't get bored of it!

Kim Kardashian As a Blonde

By juicywatermelon · August 30, 2009 · 5 Comments · 150 Views

Although it's old news, and everyone and their mom had probably shared their opinions of Kim Kardashian as a blonde, but I have to say this: I'm not loving it.  She looks way too much like Jennifer Lopez with the lighter locks!

Kim has always looked somewhat similar to J. Lo, albeit a sweeter looking J. Lo.  They both have big almond shape eyes, very shapely nose, and a small-ish pouty mouth.  Yet Kim has kept her look her own with the gorgeous dark wavy hair, making her stand out from the rest of young Hollywood.  Now she looks like she's trying to be J. Lo, and I'm not loving that.

Although yes, her colorist did a great job with the coppery blonde highlights.  When it comes to gals with darker skin tones, it's a toughie to pull off blonde.  The trick is to keep your base color brown, and include tons of thick blonde highlights around your face.  Otherwise it will look odd and disharmonized with your face.

"Secret" Sale Page at Sephora.com

By juicywatermelon · August 22, 2009 · 0 Comments · 43 Views

Did you know there's a sales page at Sephora.com? They don't advertise the link on their site, but if you search for "Sale" in the search box, it'll bring you straight to the sale page. Kinda sneaky of Sephora, but I guess it makes it more special and secretive?

Anyhow, there's some really great deals right now. Some of the items are only $2 or $5 off, but these select items are either 50% off or close to 50% off! I've definitely been eyeing a few of these items when they were full price, so now's totally the time to sweep them up!

1. Stila The Precious Pearl Palette

Stila The Precious Pearl Palette

$20.00 by Stila at Sephora

This gem was originally $40, which was already an incredible deal! Now you get $6 Stila eyeshadows packaged in a beautiful palette for only $20! That's cheaper than drugstore makeup!! Even though the palette came out during Spring, they're all really usable all-year-round! Buy this!

2. Metropolis Tourmaline Ionic Mini Wireless Straightening Iron

Metropolis Tourmaline Ionic Mini Wireless Straightening Iron

$69.00 by Metropolis at Sephora

I love my mini straightening iron, but I absolutely hate how my wires get tangled up! This little gem is not only a great straightening iron by itself, containing all the new fangle technologies offered such as tourmaline ceramic plates and what not, it's also wireless! A completely charged battery lasts for about 30 minutes, which is plenty of time to iron your hair into fabulosity. This is originally $149, so you are getting more than a 50% discount. Totally get this or suffer buyer's remorse.

3. Sephora Brand Round A Kiss - Care and Plump

Sephora Brand Round A Kiss - Care and Plump

$8.00 at Sephora

I actually just read a review on this on Blogdorf Goodman, which makes me want it now. At $8, this lip palette contains an exfoliator (the green stuff), a hydrating lip balm (the white stuff), and 2 extremely sheer and pretty pink glosses. You want pretty lips that's sooo in for this Fall? Then you'll probably want this. This is also perfect if you're a huge red lippie fan! Exfoliate and condition your lips, then make your red lippie shine with a sheer pink gloss over it. It's soo worth it for $8.

There's like 12 pages worth of items on sale at Sephora.com! Check out to see what other goodies are available and grab them before they're gone! I was a dodohead and didn't even think about grabbing all the Sephora brand brushes they had on sale a few years back. They were discontinuing all their brushes to make room for their fancy professional brushes, and they had blush and powder brushes of great quality for $10-$20. Even fan brushes were on sale! Learn from my mistakes and grab these goodies now!
